A Smile A Day – Some tips for World Kindness Day

Table of Contents

Work is busy, and sometimes we forget the small things that make us smile each day.  On November 13th, it is World Kindness Day, and as the nights draw in, it’s a timely reminder about how to bring a little more joy to the people you work with.   We wanted to share a few tips and tricks to help you be kinder, whether that’s in the office, on a video call or at an event.

A Simple Thank you

You know that feeling of walking into a room full of people with a big “hello everyone”? Well, it’s not just good manners; it can really help set a positive tone and make people feel their work is making a difference. Why not thank people for being on the next team call? Try it!

A Job Well Done

A kind word can really go a long way. Did a colleague go above and beyond for you recently? Why not send them a quick message or a shout-out to say thanks? You may be amazed at how these little notes of kindness can brighten someone’s day.

Listen

We’re all guilty of thinking about what we want to say next instead of actually listening to someone but try to pause next time you’re in a meeting (especially on video!) and actively listen instead. We all want to be heard, and it’s one of the kindest things you can do for someone.

Inclusivity

If someone has been quiet in a meeting or at an event, or you notice someone not getting involved, pause and try opening the conversation with a, “Hey, what do you think, Jordan?” People will value you more if you take the time to ask for their opinions.

Public Recognition

We know you’ve all seen those posts from companies celebrating their people and their wins, but why not start sharing some of these wins in your team chat or on social? Celebrating people not only makes them feel great, but it can also help encourage them to pay it forward and spread the love.

Kindness is easy. Like the saying goes, “People will always remember the way you made them feel.” Think about a time someone made your day with a small gesture, a kind word or a little extra time to listen, and you can start to see how it can put a smile on your face, and our work (and the world!) a better and brighter place.
